Experience
I attended Calvin College, where I studied for two majors: English Literature and German. During my time at the college, I spent time as a conversation group leader, teacher's assistant in German classes, and as a tutor. I enjoyed tutoring, so I continued to do so upon graduation. Since then, I have tutored students one-on-one in literature, grammar, and composition. Also, since I'm a total language geek, I feel especially proud when I can create a robust argument or use the correct ending on a German verb. I mostly love to teach German grammar and writing (English or German), but I'm also available for other subjects, such as literature and test prep for standardized tests like the ACT. I find that my students appreciate the way I am able to create individual study plans for each of them, taking into account their particular needs and preferred learning styles. Some students learn through movement, some through visual aids, and some with funny mnemonics. I cater to them all. I have a very academic mindset, so even a number of my free time activities revolve around things like gender studies, film studies, and American literature. I do also enjoy camping, hiking, and singing.
